Optometrist
Dr. Matthew King is a graduate of Southern California College of Optometry. He also attended Gordon College and earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He completed clinical rotations at the West Los Angeles Veteran's Hospital in Los Angeles, CA; the Ambulatory Clinic on the Naval Sub-base in New London, CT; the Las Vegas Low Vision Clinic in Las Vegas, NV; and the Southern California Eye Clinic in Fullerton, CA. He is a founding partner of King Family Eye Care, LLC which opened in January 2004 in Old Saybrook, CT, and in 2006 expanded to include our Rocky Hill, CT location.
Dr. King is an active member of the Connecticut Optometric Association and has previously served on their Board of Directors. He is also a member of the AllDocs Association, the Doctor's association affiliated with LensCrafters. He is a OneSight volunteer, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing no-cost eye exams, glasses, and permanent vision centers to individuals and places that need eye care the most. He has spent a number of weeks giving his time as part of OneSight in Vietnam, Nicaragua, and Campeche, Mexico.
In his free time, Dr. King loves the outdoors and enjoys piloting small airplanes, downhill skiing, kayaking, and hiking with his dog and family.
Optometrist
Dr. Eric Cropper is a graduate of The Arizona College of Optometry. He also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Hartford.
He completed clinical training rotations at the VA in Newington, CT; Horizon Laser Eye Center in AZ; IHS Chickasaw Nation Hospital in Ardmore, OK; and private practice in Phoenix, AZ.
Before becoming an optometrist, Dr. Cropper served in the United States Marine Corps as a tactical data network specialist.
In his free time, Dr. Cropper enjoys traveling and spending time with his large extended family.
Optometrist
Dr. Kiera A. Hagan received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Florida Atlantic University and completed her optometric degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) at Salus University. She is residency trained in Ocular Disease from the Newington VA Hospital in Connecticut. She completed her clinical rotations at Braverman Eye Center in Florida, Resler-Kerber Optometry, Inc. in Missouri, and the Jack C. Montgomery VA Hospital in Oklahoma.
During her time at PCO, she served as president of the Pennsylvania Student Optometric Association, executive treasurer for the student council of Salus University, and a member of the Gold Key Honor Society.
Outside of the office, Dr. Hagan enjoys reading, hiking, and traveling to new and exciting places.
Optometrist
Dr. William Lavoie earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Connecticut, and his Doctorate of Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.
Dr. Lavoie's specialty is contact lens fitting, but he is passionate about the health sciences overall and chose Optometry primarily for the one-on-one patient experience and the work-life balance.
Outside of the office, Dr. Lavoie can be found gardening, horseback riding, and carpentry.

Dr. Leora A. Berns attended the University of Michigan as an undergraduate and Indiana University for her Doctorate in Optometry. She relocated to Connecticut in 1986 and opened a private practice in Avon, CT. After selling her practice in 2015, Dr. Berns brought her years of practice experience and knowledge to the King Family Eye Care team at the Rocky Hill location.
In her leisure time, Dr. Berns enjoys gardening, knitting, walking, doing crosswords, and serving on the Board of the West Hartford Women's Chorale.
Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Alaina King is a graduate of Boston College’s Carroll School of Management and started her career at Arthur Andersen, LLP, where she earned her CPA in audit services. She completed a master’s in counseling psychology with trauma specialization at Lesley University and was granted a Presidential Scholarship to complete her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, Leadership, and Applied Research. She holds certifications in Organizational Development, Coaching, Meyers Briggs personality type indicator, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), group facilitation, and gestalt-based body-centered psychotherapy. She has spoken internationally and presents on secondary traumatic stress and compassion fatigue, suicide prevention, and complex trauma.
Her volunteer work includes work with the southeastern Connecticut trauma resource network for first responders and guest lecturing at schools and agencies in the New England area. She recently retired from serving as treasurer on the board of directors for the East Lyme Rowing Association and is an active member and volunteer at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in New London. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, yoga, walking their golden-doodle, and traveling to new places.
Practice Manager
Shannon joined the King Family Eye Care team in March of 2022. She brings over 15 years of management experience and over 23 years in the medical field. She is a licensed CNA/PCT receiving that certification at Middlesex Community College in 2012. She loves working in healthcare management and having a great team!
In her free time, Shannon likes playing board games and doing anything that involves family time.

Jared has been in eye care since 2017 and loves helping people see the best they can. In his free time, he enjoys going to concerts, producing music on his computer, and relaxing at home with his two cats.

Joyce completed her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. Outside the office, she enjoys hiking with her husband, sons, and dog, reading, and relaxing at the beach.

Melissa has been working in the eye care field since 2013 and became a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant in 2017. She has always had an interest in the eye care field and loves learning new things.
In her free time, she loves to spend time with her husband, and three daughters, and do anything Disney-related.

Cheyfra has been in the healthcare field since 2015 as a certified Nurse Technician, a patient access representative, and an emergency room secretary for a trauma-level facility. She loves working with people and lending a helping hand.
In her free time, she loves to go on adventures with her son, daughter, and spouse.

Danielle found her love for eye care in 2010 and has found a particular joy in patient care. In the years ahead, she plans on going back to school to earn licensure as an Optometric Technician.
Outside of work, she enjoys quality time with her son and partner as well as their two dogs and three cats.

Medical Billing Specialist
Corine earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology & Human Development from the University of the West Indies (WI) and completed a postgraduate diploma in Social Work. She received a diploma as a Health Claims Specialist from Branford Hall (CT) and an associate degree in Health Information Technology from American College. She is also a Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS).
She loves listening to people and enjoys track and field. To relax, she enjoys listening to music and going to the movies.
